What is a Registered Dietitian? A registered dietitian is a food and nutrition expert who has received a bachelor's degree from an accredited university, completed a approved supervised internship, and passed the national examination to qualify for the credential “RD.” After meeting the minimum standards registered dietitian's must complete continuing professional educational requirements to maintain registration. RD's can also receive certifications in specific areas of study after becoming a dietitian. RD's are also held to a Code of Ethics established by our national organization, The American Dietetic Association. RD's may also be licensed dietitians, depending on their states regulations. What is a Nutritionist? A nutritionist is someone who is devoted to helping people realize their nutrition goals. The term is regulated by some states, but not all. Which means that in some states anyone can call themselves a nutritionist without any formal or continuing training. Before visiting a nutritionist verify their credentials.
