What is a Registered Dietitian?

A registered dietitian is a food and nutrition expert who
has received a bachelor's degree from an accredited
university, completed a approved supervised internship,
and passed the national examination to qualify for the
credential “RD.”

After meeting the minimum standards registered
dietitian's must complete  continuing professional
educational requirements to maintain registration.  RD's
can also receive certifications in specific areas of study
after becoming a dietitian.  RD's are also held to a Code of
Ethics established by our national organization, The
American Dietetic Association.

RD's may also be licensed dietitians, depending on their
states regulations.

What is a Nutritionist?

A nutritionist is someone who is devoted to helping people
realize their nutrition goals.  The term is regulated by
some states, but not all.  Which means that in some
states anyone can call themselves a nutritionist without
any formal or continuing training. Before visiting a
nutritionist verify their credentials.
